The World In London

The World in London is an ambitious photography project for 2012, celebrating London’s diversity and photography’s unique role in capturing the human form.

Coinciding with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the project brought together 204 specially commissioned photographic portraits of 204 Londoners, each originating from one of the competing nations.

The World in London celebrated London as a place where individuals from all parts of the world live side by side, each of them contributing to making London the unique city it is.

The 204 portraits were exhibited as large-scale posters in Victoria Park in East London, and on Oxford Street opposite Selfridges.

The Photographers’ Gallery commissioned acclaimed and emerging photographers to take portrait shots of the sitters over the last three years.

Involving Londoners of all ages and from all walks of life, each portrait is unique in its composition, setting and style, and provides the viewer with an insight into the individual’s story.
